John Maxwell wrote in his book "21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" that the first law of leadership is the Law of the Lid. An organization can only be as successful as its leader. Regardless of the talent of the team, their performance will either be enhanced or handcuffed based on the leader that is leading them.
Chris Hatcher has a very high lid. Based on his successful record of leading young men, I feel confident that the teams talent will never be handcuffed due to his inability to lead.
The record of the football team the last few years is a direct reflection on the inconsistency with the leadership of the program prior to Hatchers arrival. Culture cannot be apopted overnight. The teams culture will ultimately dictate the success of the program.
Georgia Southern has a culture of winning. That culture has been turned upside down with the hiring and departure of past coaches, the rovolving door of players, and the bickering of the loyalest of fans. With such inconsistencies, it's hard for any organization to be successful.
Georgia Southern now has a proven leader in place with Chris Hatcher. The culture of the program is better today than it was 3 years ago. Players are starting to be developed in a system where only sophomores have been priveledged to know no other system.
Although the record does not reflect success, the foundation is being laid today that will result in a successful program. Winning teams come and go. Winning programs are few are far between.
Georgia Southern's future is in the hands of a proven leader. A leader who knows what it takes to succeed. I do know that all the pieces to be successful are not quite in place, but we should all feel confident that we have a leader of men who knows what it does take to succeed.
I personally look forward to the year's to come under the direction of Chris Hatcher. I obviously want to see undefeated season's, but the real excitement is finally getting the program on a track where championship banners is only a matter of time.
