Seven games into the season, and Eagle fans have 4 reasons to be unhappy vs. 3 reasons to cheer. Not a good ratio for a group of "all or nothing" type mentalities.
Eagle fan's hearts may be in multiple pieces, but the sky has yet to fall, and Eagle Creek has not dried up.
Although fingers are pointing in every direction, finger pointing should be kept away from Chris Hatcher.
Hatcher was 76-12 at his previous head coaching post. This recored included a National Championship, Coach of the year, and back to back undefeated regular seasons. Enough games were played under Hatcher's watchful eye to prove to anyone he knows what he is doing.
Now in Statesboro, I truly doubt Hatcher has forgotten how to coach. He simply didn't become stupid overnight. Taking over a team with a high attrition rate coupled with new coaches and schemes isn't easy for any team. GS had the luxury of having the best player in FCS on its side last year. Heck, you can almost say this is Hatcher's first year of coaching "his style" of offense.
Bobby Cox, with all of his year's of winning as the Braves manager, didn't forget how to manage this past season. Not having the players and producing inconsistently led to an early off season for the Bravos.
Hatcher is in a similar situation. Players make plays. Our players are working just as hard or even harder this year than any other year I've been watching GS football. We have lost 3 games for a total of 4 points. Unbelievable.
For the fan who wants the triple option back, get over it. Offenses don't win championships, execution does. The triple option under Paul Johnson is still a fun offense to watch, but I think any GS fan just wants to win, regardless of offense.
As angry as I admit to be earlier in the season, I have a new found faith in this GS program. Be thankful for having a talented coach in Hatcher on our sidelines. Be thankful 20,000 fans showed up for a 3-3 FCS football team. Be thankful we have a young team that, with experience under one offense, will start to come around and produce.
We are finally able to get some consistency in recruiting top talent. We have a coach that can install his offense and produce proven results with time. We certainly have an excited fan base eager to see what a GS team can finally do with just a little consistent time under its belt in putting these things together.
